(The following information was sent to all Mary Bray Elementary School families via telephone blast...)

Tomorrow, Thursday, September 7, is the first day of the 2017-18 school year.

Both tomorrow and Friday, September 8, will be 1:00 dismissal days.  Lunch will be served in the cafeteria on both days.

Monday, September 11, will be our first full day of school with a 3:00 dismissal.

If you have a 1st grader assigned to Mrs. Reiss’s class, you need to be aware that we will be starting the year with a substitute as Mrs. Reiss will be on long-term leave.  Ms. Madison Pagliacetti will be taking over Mrs. Reiss’s classroom until she returns.  You will love her.  She has solid experience with early childhood students and is sure to do a great job until Mrs. Reiss returns.

Arrival to Mary Bray should be conducted exactly as it has been in previous years.  We will not be entering through the playground and gym as communicated last week.

Students should be dropped off at the Station Avenue entrance and will enter the school directly into these doors.
Official arrival time remains 8:20 am.  Our teachers do not officially arrive to school until 8:15.  Our specials teachers begin hallway arrival supervision at 8:20 and our homeroom teachers begin classroom duty at 8:25.  Because of this we are not able to have teachers on duty outside the school in the morning and that is why it is important that students not be dropped off prior to 8:20.

Despite the fact that we request students not be dropped off early, this practice does still take place.  This puts both our students and district at risk due to lack of supervision.
This year, to help keep our students safe, I have assigned two paraprofessionals to be on duty beginning at 8:10. Any unsupervised students on site at this time will be required to enter the building and move into the gym where they will be grouped by teacher until 8:20 when their teachers come to take them to their classrooms.

Students on site with their parents prior to 8:20 will be encouraged to enter the building as well.  If you choose to keep your child outside with you until 8:20, please be aware that they are not allowed inside the playground and there can be no running or playing ball.  This is for the safety of the children and the district.

If your child arrives to school after 8:20, they should come directly into the building and go right their classroom where their classmates and teacher will meet them.

If your child arrives to school after 8:30 they are officially late and must stop at the main office for a pass before going onto their classroom.  Please be aware that attendance and tardiness are two areas where the state of New Jersey and our District will be focusing on this school year.  Students cannot do their best work if they enter a classroom mid-lesson or miss instruction all together.

Mary Bray dismissal is the same as in previous years.
  • Ms. Eichman's and Mrs. McCormick’s classes will exit from the Station Avenue main doors.
  • Mrs. Bergin's and Mrs. Czerski’s classes will exit from the Station Avenue doors next to the handicapped ramp
  • Ms. Pierman's, Ms. Pagliacetti, and Ms. Carrell will exit from the Kings Highway main entrance.
  • Mrs. Immendorf and Ms. Snow will exit from the Kings highway north side entrance.
  • And all 3rd and 4th grade classes with exit onto the playground.

This year I ask that all 3rd and 4th grade students exit the playground upon dismissal.  If students in any grade would like to stay and play after dismissal they can re-enter the playground after 3:10.  Please know that the school nurse is not available for students on the playground after dismissal.

I apologize for starting off with all of the rules on the night before our exciting first day.  But clear expectations will help everyone be successful as we start our new school year.

I hope to see you ate our Mary Bray Character Education Kick-off celebration tomorrow at 1:15 on the playground and I look forward to a fun and productive school year.
